NZ Heralds best cosy cabins in New Zealand for a winter getaway

Recognised by Airbnb as NZ‘s Best Nature Stay!
We are humbled to be the winners of Airbnb’s BEST NATURE STAY, in New Zealand for 2023. Thank you to Airbnb for selecting us for this award.
For us, nature is our guide in everything we do and its cool that others vibe with this too. Whenever we create anything here on our property it is always an idea that comes to us organically and intuitively, from observation of natural happenings around us.
We build, we dig, we plant all with regard to the sun, the seasons, the weather, the topography and the plants. We try to repurpose building materials, we focus on low energy consumption and try to enhance natures power in all areas.
We have a lot of love for the hut and what it has done for us. It enables us to live a balanced lifestyle, where we have quality family time, we are reconnecting with our land and learning from nature.
When we do bump into guests, conversations are often drawn towards themes of off-grid/self sufficient living, enjoying a slower lifestyle with less stress and re-learning lost skills like gardening and animal care. There is an obvious curiosity and common interest that our guests have and perhaps they didn’t even realise that when they arrived. We feel privileged to potentially spark some change for people in this regard.

Brent, Frankie & I shared our story in the NZ Life & Leisure magazine.
We hosted photographer Tessa Chrisp and her partner Al at our Hut and then a week later writer Cari Johnson. It was refreshing to experience real journalism where these two crafted a true story and really got to know us!

Sister magazine NZ Lifestyle Block included our story in their issue.
Editor Mikey Mickmichael has included a bit more detail about our learnings of developing a bare block alongside the original article written by @carimelina and photographed by @tessachrisp. Frankie makes for a cute cover girl too. We have always loved the practical and helpful advice of this great mag, their “how to care for your poultry” is our go-to for our chickens.
